UpStart Champions (formerly the Calgary Children's Initiative)

UpStart Champions brings together representatives from a range of sectors and systems to promote a public agenda for action on behalf of Calgary's children and youth. We are working to grow a Calgary community that is truly committed to all children and youth reaching their full potential. Our seventy partner organizations and two hundred leaders agree that this means every child and youth will:

  • Have a positive start in life.
  • Be cared for and safe.
  • Be ready for and experience success in school.
  • Practice healthy behaviours.
  • Be successful in their transition to adulthood.

The Council of Champions, of which Faithful City is a member, and its groups of experts that work on the many collaborative initiatives build strategic alignment around common agenda for children and youth, influence public policy and lead research and innovative action.

Faithful City has been working with CCI in connecting the Critical Hours programme with faith community venues and resources, thus building a network of venues and resources for youth in the Critical Hours after school when there is high youth crime and a plethora of self-destructive options open to them. Critical Hours seeks to transform this time-frame into a period of positive life-building opportunities in expertly supportive, mentored environments.
